The Royal West Academy Photographic Exhibition 2023

In 2022 I created a series of paintings using Cyanotype photography and mixed media.

I am pleased to announce that my piece, ‘Heatwave’ has been accepted to be showed at this years prestigious photographic event at the Royal West Academy in Bristol.
I am a great admirer of the academy.  The galleries are set in the most beautiful Victorian building.  

This cyanotype was created during the super hot weather in 2022. 
I actually left the print out for longer than I meant to. 

The distortion of the print worked really well to give a sense of heat rising.
White figures and a lamp post materialised during the sun printing process.

With record temperatures recorded especially in cities in the UK the picture became a  dystopian cityscape.  
As I painted I wanted the viewer to get that feeling that the heat is too close for comfort.  The figure in the foreground follows a trail of heat energy.
There is no escaping from that sun!
