Royal West Academy Photography (mixed media) Show 2023
March 22nd UPDATE SOLD
Heatwave has sold to a lady sculptor who is interested in the cyanotype process. I am really pleased the painting will be cherished.
This is amazing!
I was selected for the RWA photographic exhibition this year!
They have not had a photographic show for 20 years!
I love the Royal West Academy. I have been visiting this stunning venue for the last fourteen years. I actually discovered this through a trip organised through the Topsham Art group. I owe a lot of my motivation and inspiration to that local group.
The very first time I showed any work was with the Topsham Art Group in their annual show back in 2009/10. Back then Oscar (my oldest son) was a baby. It was having Oscar that steered me on a course directly back into my painting.
My Piece is a Cyanotype print that I made using the power of the sun.
Last year I started experimenting with cyanotype and mixed media.
This all came about when I took my children on a cyanotype printing course with a local artist Bridget Arnold.
Bridget uses pure cyanotype to create stunning naturalistic images using plants.

Bridget told me about a woman called Anna Atkins who used cyanotypes to record scientific specimens she found. It is thought she could have been the fist ever female photographer.

To produce the series of works I made to create Heatwave I used cyanotype, acrylic paint, acrylic inks and oil pastels.
I have many ideas concerning the further use of this media in my work.
